![]() ![]() However, he only seems to be willing to talk about fairly surface level topics like his performance or make up, and despite Phoenix’s desire for him to open up to her Ziya never really discusses his deeper thoughts and feelings. He always seems rather unemotionless, but he does converse Phoenix when she tries to talk to him (at least initially). Ziya doesn’t speak much, spending most of his time managing the circus and practicing his aerial silk performance. I actually really liked Raphael’s character, and his path is one of the rare instances where there’s some relationship drama that doesn’t feel forced or silly in a free game. Phoenix teases him relentlessly as they grow closer, and although he tries to act like an asshole about he blushes and stammers so much it’s hard to take him too seriously. Raphael does tell Phoenix to shut up multiple times and even insults her on an occasion or two, but he doesn’t seem truly angry – often more flustered than anything else. This is a pretty odd combination, but it actually works well! Raphael initially doesn’t want Phoenix staying with the circus at all, but once Ziya tells her that she can stay he grudgingly accepts the decision. The game includes mentions of death, murder, and abandonment, but no detailed descriptions or any depictions. From there, it’s up to her how she spends her time – either making or breaking her relationship with the two performers she’s met, or a retired performer visiting the troupe. ![]() After some deliberation, they agree to let her stay with the circus until it moves on to its next location in a week. She hides from some pursuers in a circus tent, but is quickly discovered by two performers who use it. The premise of the game is that the protagonist, Phoenix, is a thief on the run. Overall, this is an adorable game that’s definitely worth trying out! It’s not even too short, with enough time to see some character development in both the potential love interests. The artwork isn’t the best I’ve seen in a free game, but there are plenty of CGs and good writing to balance it out nicely (and in my opinion, the protagonist’s sprite is pretty cute). However, as his type implies, he has a dark secret that he avoids discussing until near the end of the game – one that explains his bizarre behavior towards the start (and moving forward into the game).Ĭircus of Soaring Dreams is a visual novel by Celestial Toast. But even though Pierce initially tries to avoid Nabi, once she actually gets him to acknowledge her existence he’s not insulting or even neutral he seems pretty friendly and jokes around with her. Pierce is a really quiet guy on general principle, but he’s even more so with the protagonist. I wonder what that has to do with anything? Oh, yeah, and her family also has a curse on it wherein the first person to fall in love with Nabi will kill her or die trying – but she does have a pendant to protect against it. She gets the chance to become closer to him and figure out his odd behavior, however, when she’s invited to join the jewelry making club which he is part of. However, her day is soured when a former elementary school friend completely ignores her when she tries to greet him without any explanation. ![]() The premise of the game is that the protagonist, Nabi, is a high school freshman on her first day of classes. I’d recommend it as a sweet and quick way to get your otome fix! Although the game is pretty short, and doesn’t have any CGs, it’s still got an enjoyable plot and four different endings to uncover. If you played Lady of the Castle, a game I reviewed a while back by the same creator, you’re already familiar with her really gorgeous art style and quality writing. Charms of Lavender Blue is a cute online visual novel by waffrus. ![]()
